Atypique Voyages, the local tailor-made travel agency in Asia
Tailor-made travel agency
Choose a tailor-made travel agency to create an itinerary tailored to your wishes, far from the usual tourist routes. In Asia, this approach offers unique experiences, such as a night in a floating house or an immersion in a traditional village. Local travel designers plan every step based on your interests, ensuring an authentic and personalized stay.
Our travel agency
Atypique Lanka was born in 2012, founded by Chamika, a Sri Lankan who grew up in France, and Marjorie. From the very beginning, the agency has championed another way of traveling: tailor-made stays, powerful experiences, encounters with local communities, and a curated selection of charming, quality accommodations.
In 2020, Atypique Voyages brings together Atypique Lanka, Atypique Vietnam, as well as getaways to the Maldives. A new name, but the same ambition: to introduce you to a country in a different way, through authentic experiences and human encounters that leave a lasting impression on travelers.
A new chapter is written in 2025 with the arrival of Gauthier, a long-time expat in Indonesia. His expertise in tailor-made travel, shaped by his personal roots in Indonesia, strengthens the team and opens up new horizons.
The Indonesian archipelago then joins the Atypique offering, in the same spirit: traveling differently, with attentive local support and a responsible approach.
Why choose a tailor-made trip in Asia?
A tailor-made trip to Asia stands out for its flexibility. Unlike standardized package tours, it adapts to your wishes, your pace, and your needs. For example, a stay in Sri Lanka can include a hike through tea plantations, a stop at an ecolodge in the heart of rice paddies, a safari in a national park, or even a visit to an isolated Buddhist temple, depending on what you’re looking for. Specialized agencies, such as Atypique Voyages, spend a great deal of time on the ground searching for new hidden gems and work with trusted local partners to offer experiences off the beaten track.
This personalization also extends to accommodations. At Atypique, we only offer what we know and what we love! In Vietnam, you can stay with local people in the Mekong Delta or choose a boutique hotel in Hanoi. Travel designers fine-tune every detail, from transport to meals and activities, to avoid unpleasant surprises as much as possible. A tailor-made trip in Indonesia can therefore combine deserted beaches in Lombok with volcanic hikes in Java, without wasting time on logistics.
Finally, this format promotes responsible tourism. Committed agencies, such as Atypique Voyages, follow a very strict set of requirements, spend time raising awareness among their partners about sustainability issues, and select service providers that are respectful of the environment and local communities. For example, a trip to the Philippines may include a visit to a marine conservation project, while avoiding over-visited areas.
Tailor-made travel in Asia: the essentials
Asia is full of ideal destinations for a tailor-made trip. Sri Lanka, for example, is appealing for its varied landscapes: beaches in Tangalle or Mirissa, national parks like Yala or Wilpattu, and cultural sites such as Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, or Anuradhapura. A trip to Sri Lanka can be organized around your passions, whether that’s safari, surfing, or gastronomy. We live on the spot and have personally tested and approved everything we recommend!
Vietnam offers a similar diversity. A tailor-made itinerary can begin in Hanoi, with a chance to sample street food, before continuing to Halong Bay for a private cruise. History lovers will appreciate Hoi An, while nature enthusiasts will prefer the rice terraces of Sapa. A trip to Vietnam lets you mix these experiences without constraints.
Indonesia, with its 17,000 islands, is another key destination. Bali draws visitors for its temples and rice paddies, but also for the warmth of its people and this very special atmosphere. A trip to Bali can also include batik workshops or meetings with local artisans. Java, which is less touristy, offers treks to Mount Bromo, while Lombok is known for its white-sand beaches. A trip to Java or a trip to Lombok provides more intimate alternatives.
The Maldives, often associated with luxurious resorts, can also be discovered in a different way. A tailor-made trip to the Maldives can be arranged in a local guesthouse without forgetting the excursion to observe dolphins. Finally, the Philippines, with their 7,000 islands, make it possible to create a unique itinerary, between diving in Palawan and culture in the Visayas.
How do you prepare a successful tailor-made trip?
The first step is to define your expectations. A tailor-made travel agency starts with an in-depth discussion to pinpoint your interests, your budget, and any constraints. We systematically offer a call so we can get to know each other and understand your wishes as best as possible. For example, if you want a trip to Ceylon, specify whether you prefer historical sites or nature parks, whether you’re more sporty or more into relaxing… The travel designers use this information to propose a first draft itinerary, which you can then adjust. The motto of the Atypique team is “co-creation”.
Choosing local service providers is crucial. A serious agency works with certified guides and accommodations selected for their quality. In Vietnam, for example, we can recommend a homestay in the north or an eco-responsible lodge in the delta. These partnerships ensure authentic experiences, such as a cooking class with a local family or a guided hike led by an expert.
Logistics is another key point. Transfers, train tickets, and restaurant bookings are handled in advance to avoid surprises. For example, a trip to Indonesia may require domestic flights between Bali and Komodo, which we arrange for you. Finally, a pre-departure briefing prepares you for cultural specifics, such as dress codes at temples or local customs.
The budget varies depending on destinations and services. A tailor-made trip in Asia can cost between €2,000 and €5,000 per person for two weeks, depending on the level of comfort and the activities chosen. We will always provide a detailed quote. Some agencies offer flexible options, such as installment payments or last-minute adjustments.
Our commitments for responsible travel
A committed tailor-made travel agency includes ethical criteria in its proposals. Atypique Voyages, for example, is certified Travelife, a label that guarantees sustainable practices. This translates into concrete choices, such as eco-certified accommodations or activities that support local communities. A trip to the Maldives can therefore include a visit to a coral reef protection project.
The Atypique Foundation, created by the agency, funds local initiatives. For example, it supports a school or reforestation programs in Sri Lanka. These commitments make it possible to travel differently, by minimizing one’s environmental impact.
Responsible agencies also raise awareness among their clients about sustainable actions. Before departure, they provide advice on how to reduce your carbon footprint, such as favoring public transport or avoiding single-use plastics. On site, they recommend local restaurants rather than international chains, or artisan boutiques rather than souvenir shops. These small actions make a difference, especially in fragile destinations like Bali, the Philippines, or Sri Lanka.
Finally, they avoid controversial activities, such as elephant back rides or visits to unethical sanctuaries. Instead, they offer respectful alternatives, such as encounters with animal protection associations. These choices reflect a more conscious vision of tourism, where the traveler becomes an active participant in their stay.
FAQ About Our Travel Agency Specializing in Asia
What’s the difference between a tailor-made trip and a guided tour?
A tailor-made trip is designed around your preferences, with complete flexibility regarding the itinerary, activities, and pace. For example, you can choose to spend three days in Bali’s rice fields rather than just one. A guided tour, on the other hand, follows a pre-defined itinerary, with fixed schedules and group travel.
Tailor-made travel agencies, like Atypique Voyages, work with local or expatriate travel designers based on-site to adapt every detail. All our trips begin with a call—an actual discussion that helps build rapport and, above all, understand your wishes and needs so we can then craft a stay that truly reflects you. This helps you avoid tourist traps and focus on authentic experiences, such as a night in a traditional village in Vietnam, a night in the trees in Sri Lanka, or a guided hike led by a local resident in Java.
How much does a tailor-made trip in Asia cost?
The price of a tailor-made trip in Asia depends on several factors: duration, destinations, the level of comfort, and the activities you choose. For two weeks, plan on between €2,000 and €5,000 per person. For example, a trip to Vietnam with mid-range accommodations and cultural activities will cost around €2,500, while a week in the Maldives with luxury resorts can exceed €6,000. Keep in mind, however, that all our stays are tailor-made and we will therefore adjust the program to your budget.
Agencies provide a detailed quote, including accommodation, transportation, meals, and activities—plus our support throughout the planning process and then during the trip itself. If needed, we offer options for staged payments or cancellation insurance. It’s also possible to adjust the budget by choosing simpler accommodations or limiting paid excursions.
How do you choose a tailor-made travel agency?
To choose a tailor-made travel agency, start by checking its ethical commitments. A responsible agency, like Atypique Voyages, must be certified by labels such as Travelife or be a member of a foundation dedicated to sustainable tourism. Sustainable tourism certification helps prove that the agency is genuinely committed to a sustainable approach, putting in place concrete actions—not just marketing promises. Also look at traveler reviews to assess the quality of the services and the seriousness of the travel designers.
Prefer agencies that work with local partners. For example, an agency specializing in trips to Sri Lanka like Atypique Lanka is based on-site and personally knows all its partners and service providers there, enabling it to organize off-the-beaten-path activities. Our travel designers, who are in charge of creating our travelers’ programs, are all based on-site and know the terrain inside out. Finally, speak with a consultant to test their responsiveness and their ability to understand your expectations. A good agency should propose a first draft of a personalized itinerary, adjust it if needed, and then validate it with the traveler before booking.
Which Asian destinations are best suited for a first tailor-made trip?
For your first tailor-made trip in Asia, choose destinations that are easy to access and offer variety. Sri Lanka is ideal: it combines beaches, culture, and nature, with well-developed tourism infrastructure. A trip to Ceylon can include safaris, visits to temples, strolls through tea plantations, and relaxing moments on the beach.
Vietnam is also an excellent option. It offers a wide variety of landscapes, from the northern mountains to the southern beaches, including dynamic cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. A tailor-made trip to Vietnam lets you discover these contrasts at your own pace, with local guides to make exchanges easier.
How can you make sure your tailor-made trip is eco-responsible?
For an eco-responsible tailor-made trip, choose an agency committed to sustainable tourism. Check that it offers certified accommodations and that it has properly visited places such as eco-lodges or local guesthouses. For example, a trip to Indonesia may include stays in hotels certified with Green Key, which limit their water and energy consumption, or small charming properties that employ local residents from nearby villages—helping redistribute tourism revenue within the community.
Also prioritize activities that support local communities. A responsible agency avoids excursions that exploit animals or local populations. Instead, it offers workshops with artisans, visits to conservation projects, or meals at family-run restaurants. Finally, educate yourself about sustainable practices, such as avoiding single-use plastics or respecting local cultural codes.
