Palawan, along the water

  • Explore Palawan onboard a local boat, at the slow pace of the sea.
  • Discover remote islands between El Nido, Linapacan, and Coron.
  • Snorkel in remarkably clear waters, far from the most crowded routes.
  • Sleep in simple camps, as close to the shorelines as possible.
  • Embrace a flexible itinerary, guided by the weather, the tides, and the sea.

A crossing conceived as a journey

Between El Nido and Coron, there is another way to get around in the north of Palawan. Rather than a simple transfer between two of the Philippines’ iconic destinations, this journey turns the trip itself into a travel experience—crafted by our tailor-made travel agency.

For several days, the sea becomes the guiding thread of the journey. The boat moves slowly between the scattered islands of the archipelago, with stops that pace the days without ever making the itinerary feel fixed. Here, time gradually slows down. The landscapes appear and disappear according to the pace of sailing, and you end up looking at this stretch of Palawan—so often crossed too quickly—during a trip to the Philippines.

This experience does not seek standardized comfort or an accumulation of activities. It is based more on a sense of continuity between the sea, the islands, and the journey itself. That is precisely what makes it unique: a slow, simple, immersive crossing, where you allow yourself to be carried along by the rhythm of the open water.

Leaving El Nido and falling into the rhythm of the sea

The departure quickly marks a break from the hustle and bustle of El Nido. Once the last islands you’ve visited are left behind, the journey takes on another dimension. The landscape gradually opens up, distances stretch longer, and the sea becomes a constant presence throughout the day.

On board, the pace naturally slows down. Days are organized around sailing time, swimming breaks, and snorkeling stops. This way of traveling slowly changes the way you look at things. You no longer try to multiply the number of stops—you learn to fully inhabit the crossing.

The itinerary intentionally leaves some room for flexibility. Each stage adapts to sailing conditions, weather, tides, and the state of the sea. This flexibility is an integral part of the experience and is a reminder that you are crossing a living marine environment here.

As the hours pass, karst formations appear, then slowly drift away toward the horizon. Some islands seem uninhabited, while others are simply dotted with a few houses facing the sea. The water changes color depending on the light and the areas you pass through. Little by little, the feeling of being away from everyday life becomes more pronounced.

Island-hopping through Linapacan

It is around the Linapacan archipelago that the crossing truly takes on its value. Located between El Nido and Coron, this region remains more discreet than the two most well-known ends of the north of Palawan. The experience then subtly shifts in nature: you’re no longer just traveling between two destinations, but right through the archipelago itself.

Days are organized around shorter sailings, punctuated by stops at sparsely populated—or uninhabited—islands. Some beaches seem cut off from everything, with only a few coconut palms, pale sand, and the sound of the water. The journey retains a great simplicity, without excessive staging or major infrastructure.

Snorkeling is part of the natural rhythm of the crossing. Reefs often appear very close to the islands, in exceptionally clear water. Here again, the experience stays smooth: you stop when a place simply invites you to slow down.

What stands out most in this part of the trip is the sense of distance. At times, the archipelago gives the impression of being suspended outside the main tourist routes. Sailing time is no longer perceived as an in-between moment, but as an essential part of the journey.

Sleeping as close as possible to the islands before reaching Coron

The nights fully extend this immersion in the archipelago. Accommodations remain simple: camps set up on the islands, tents, or small lightweight bamboo structures with mosquito nets. Comfort is limited and should be considered as such before departure.

This crossing does not seek to replicate the standards of a classic stay. Instead, it prioritizes direct proximity to the landscapes you pass through. Sleeping by the sea, hearing the wind or the movement of the water during the night, waking up in an environment still quiet: it’s often these very simple moments that give the trip its depth.

As you approach Coron, the crossing takes on another dimension. After several days spent between the islands, the arrival no longer really feels like the end of a journey, but rather the conclusion of a special parenthesis within a trip to the Philippines.

Between El Nido and Coron, this sailing experience ultimately offers another way to discover Palawan: slower, more secluded, and more immersive. An experience in which the crossing matters as much as the places you reach.

We made a 17-days familly tour prepared by Prabath. We had various requests due our familly organization and Prabath has always been solution oriented, patient and very kind to propose alternatives which fitted with our expectations. Our guide Terrence is a very friendly and caring person who made everything possible to please us and show us the best of Sri Lanka. He is a very good driver and a very professionnal guide with large knowledges in fauna, flora, history, culture, religion. He shared a lot with us throughout our trip and visits and it was really part a of what we appreciated a lot. Beyond that, we are very satisfied with the respect of the sustainability certification : hotels and homestays, as well as visits, experiences of valuable local handicraft were in line with this commitment. If you wish to come in Sri Lanka and experience the best, we can only recommand to use the services offered by Atypique Voyages! We come back with hundreds of amazing memories from our trip. Thank you so much Atypique Voyages! 🙏🏻
